Suggestions. [Tuesday

While decorating my house, I realized that there aren't many art pieces that fit what I was looking for. I learned that making your own art works well, and then sending it to a printer like fed ex is a cheap easy way to have your own original pieces that fit your decor.

Other tips, cheap benches with cushions, you can get them at second hand shops, and are extremely easy to reupholster with the perfect fabric. Most cushions just unscrew on the bottom, and then all you need is to rip the original fabric off and add the new fabric with a staple gun. If the wood is bad condition, simple spray paint can fix that..

Just wanted to say that i think this is an excellent idea for a community.. I have searched all over the internet for new and interesting ideas for decorating my home, and most places are too blah in taste for me. Gothic martha stewart had a lot of great ideas, and i hope to get many more from here.

Caution Coaster... [Saturday
October 14th, 2006 ]

theladysamantha
Hi there, I thought that I would share my latest creation. Its a plastic woven drink coaster in yellow and black and its about 5 inches by 5 inches. It is held together by the woven yellow strap and stainless steel links. Its warped, unfortunatly, so its curved up at the corners. Tell me what you think!

As I was perusing the Target website for my wedding registry, I came across this apothecary table. From what I gather, there aren't -really- all those tiny drawers, it's simply a decorative feature. Which is a shame! But then I found this which is just as cute, if not quite as -useful-. :) And it has much better reviews, since the cocktail table isn't very highly recommended. In any case, I thought they were adorable and wanted to share. :)

I thought I would share. (Decor Ideas) [Monday
September 11th, 2006 ]

miserysmalice
I found the most helpful site for some home decor ideas and due to Halloween being just around the corner I thought I would share this delight of a site Halloween Town Store.. Just to give you a taste of what’s there, feel free to look behind the cuts (Beware there is a heap of images behind these cuts).

::Possessed Pictures::
These delights change their portrait image like a holographic image, for example an unsuspecting Great Aunt can change into Medusa. A few of these among a wall of some old family black and whites would be a treat.::More::Collapse )

::Lighting::
Looking to create a mood or tizzy up a dark corner of a room without the use of candles? Or maybe you want to dress up this years Christmas trees with a little twist? Then this may be for you..::More::Collapse )

::Manchester & Household Items::
Those plain black towels don’t cut the mustard anymore? Want your guests to gasp in awe at your quirky yet gothy themed toilet? Are you finding it hard to find the small things to fill your home that capture your personality? Then maybe you need to look here.::More::Collapse )

Hello! Someone pointed me over here from gothroyalty. I wish I had found this community ages ago!

Anyway, I'm in my last year of college, and that means I still live in a dorm. Every year I just usually make a... collage on my wall of old posters, paintings and stuff cannabalized from magazines. This year, my roommate and I want something a little different. This was inspired when I found silk black roses on sale and made a vase.

So who has any ideas or even stories about adventures in college decorating?

Help identify this table? [Tuesday
August 22nd, 2006 ]

This table was my first antique purchase. It came from the estate of a prominent local attorney who willed his estate to a nearby university. The university took what they wanted and held an auction to dispose of the rest. What was left over filled the events building of the county fairgrounds and took almost 8 hours to complete.

It was love at first sight when I saw it.

birdcages [Monday
August 14th, 2006 ]

cookiemon
I was looking for some furniture to butcher at the Homemaker center behind Highpoint Mall, and found full sized classical chick bird cages.

Blackened, with a foam padded floor (perhaps upholstered in PVC or fun-fur) and the perches removed, one of these could be turned into a nice addition to the right room. Sadly my 'new' place isn't really in the style for this kind of thing that the old place was.

On top of that you get a prop for photoshoots, and... other stuff...

It was $300-and-something, which is a lot, but still only a fraction of what that sort of thing purpose-built costs.

(Incidentally, while I guess you could paint it, you could turn the metal itself black with a bluing solution, which you can get from gun stores)

(the more I think of ways you could fix this up, the more tempting it is to go ahead despite the style problems - I think it would look great raised up on sturdy ornate legs. To many other things to do tho)

In search of a purple chair... [Sunday
August 6th, 2006 ]

raven_moon
I know I have seen some yummy, gothy furniture mentioned in some of these comms, but looking back I can't seem to find the references I *think* I remember. SO:

Does anyone have any idea where (in the US, if there are members here) I can find a nice, scooshy, comfy, BIG overstuffed chair in purple? I prefer velvet ot some sort of chenille/pile/etc., but anything in purple would be awesome!

I am in the midwest, so Indianapolis, Cinci, St Louis & even Chicago or Milwaukee are possibilities. I don't mind ordering online, either, as long as delivery isn't outrageous.

Thanks, everyone! Sorry for the X-posting spam...

Papier-mâché [Wednesday

[ mood | cheerful ]

Hello my name’s Sharmah (His_Moon_child from the Melbourne goth forum). Thanks for allowing me to participate in this community… although by no means an expert, I find craft and home decorating with a leaning toward a goth aesthetic to be all kinds of fun. One thing recently I’ve come across is the idea that papier-mâché may not be reserved for primary school students alone. It’s an interesting way of recycling paper using wallpaper glue, acrylic paint and varnish. This is a bowl I’ve made, a bit of a ‘test the water’ project, and although admittedly this particular item is far from perfect I wonder if it might be an interesting medium for other projects.
